Year 1

Welcome to our Year One class.  This is the first year of Key Stage 1 and it is a very exciting year. We hope that some of the information available on our class page will help you to keep up to date with what is happening at school.

We tend to have 3 lessons in the morning, which are Handwriting, English and Maths. Handwriting lasts around 20 minutes and both English and Maths last around 50 minutes each. We start the afternoons with phonics and this lasts around 30 minutes. This is then followed by a subject such as Music, RE, History, Science, Art or Geography.  We have PE twice a week every Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon.

In addition we have wow days that are linked to our current topic for the children to show off their creative and imaginative skills. The days are an introduction to forth coming topics and give the children a flavour of what it is all about and what they will be learning.

We find it helps to settle the children if they come into class on their own when they start Year One, this helps the children to begin to be independent which is a key learning skill and gives a calm start to the school day so that the children are ready to learn.

Mrs Dolding and Mrs Jefferies are always available to talk to parents and carers after school so feel free to come in if you have any questions or concerns.
