Lowry

Welcome to Year 2, Class Lowry. On this page you will find lots of information about the structure of your child’s day, routines and home learning. For more detailed information about what we will be learning through our topic work, please click on the topic page links below.

A Day in the Life of Class Lowry

We begin every day with a whole school worship, which is the followed by a Maths  lesson.  After a playtime, we then have an English lesson (which incorporates spellings, reading and writing skills). In the afternoon, the children are taught lessons which link to our topic – these may include lessons such as music, geography and history. In Year 2, the children still have an afternoon playtime and we end every day with a whole class story time.

Home Learning

The children have their own home learning books – an English book and a maths book. Each week they will come home with one of these books. Inside the book is a book mark which explains which pages the children should complete that week. In addition to this we would also like you to practise your child’s spellings, times tables x2, x5 and x10 and read with your child. We ask that you read with your child as much as you can, at least 4 times a week. If you can find time to read every day that would be amazing!  The children are reminded each day to independently change their reading books when needed.

PE

The children have two PE lessons a week;  Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Please make sure your child’s PE kit stays in school all week as we sometimes have to swap our PE sessions.

If you have any questions about life in Year 2, or more specific questions about your child and their learning, please feel free to pop in at the end of the day. We are always happy to help!
