We are so lucky in year 6 because we literally have the best topic ever to start us off!! Children all across the UK are jealous!
Our Expelliarmus! topic focuses on the magical world of Harry Potter, created for us by the fantastic JK Rowling. We will be reading parts of the first book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ as our class text and will complete an amazing range of activities linked to it. We will also get to watch the first movie!
Our topic includes the most fabulous school trip in the history of man- a trip to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour- The Making of Harry Potter! This should encourage us to engage with and enjoy all of our magical themed learning.
In our English learning we will be completing a fabulous range of activities linked to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. These will include a diary entry describing our visit to Diagon Alley, our own re-imagining of Harry’s journey on the Hogwarts express, a Harry Potter themed information text and many many more wonderful activities
We have two super art activities to complete this term. Firstly, we will be recreating the famous painting ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. We will learn about Van Gogh and his style and will then create the picture ourselves, making Hogwarts our silhouette. Later on in the term, we will be creating Harry Potter wands!! We will design these first and then have lots of fun making them.
We will be using the Harry Potter theme tune to create an incredible Harry Potter dance in our PE learning this term. As a class, we will devise, practice and then perform a magic themed dance piece.
This is our main learning linked to Harry Potter but we will be completing lots of other fabulous activities in other areas of learning.
Here’s to a magical term!
