This week the children in Key Stage 2 have had great fun learning about coding.
In their workshop Year 3 and Year 4 spent their time building different types of robots using WeDo Lego. They then had to sue coding to program their robots to spin, move, stop, speed up, slow down, change colour or play music. If the robot did not work they had to workout how to debug the algorithm. They learnt that an algorithm is a specific set of instructions to make something happen, and had great fun in the process.
Year 6 were making the Lego EV3 Gearbot! This was an increase in challenge from the workshops last year and Class Vivaldi really stepped up to the challenge. The children had to work in pairs to follow the instructions to construct their robots; the quicker they got their robot built the more time they could have to experiment with them!
As soon as the children had finished they raced over to the mats and inputted their codes to try and get them to follow a path. Some of the children had more success than others, but the whole class enjoyed this activity tremendously and developed lots of coding and construction skills.
